Everyone likes to know a little history every now and then, so I thought you
might want to know a little bit about the history of the Lapeer Steelers.
I had a chance to meet with one of the "Founding Fathers" of the Lapeer
Steelers, Mr. John Nowack. John and several other people, most of whom
were friends from the Junior Chamber of Commerce of Lapeer, formed the
Lapeer Steelers Youth Football franchise approximately 25 years ago. I
asked John how they came up with the name, and he told me that it was as
simple as it being the one they decided on from the slew of names being
tossed around at the time. He explained to me that they played teams
from Clarkston, Waterford, Oxford and Pontiac, along with Rochester and some
other teams as well. At that time, though, they didn't have any
playoffs that he could remember.
Mr. Nowack, along with the partners at his law firm of Nowack, Poniatowski
and Morgan, PC, have allowed the Lapeer Steelers to use their basement for
our equipment storage. Most of us know it as "The Dugout". They
have been kind enough to allow us use of this area for the entire history of
the Lapeer Steelers for no charge. And to thank them, this year, Bob
Travis (Vice President) and I (Matthew Hansel, President), took the time to
present Mr. Nowack and his partners plaques from the Lapeer Steelers to show
our appreciation for their continued support of this organization.
Nowack, Poniatowski and Morgan, PC
We at the Lapeer Steelers would like to thank you again for your unwavering
support of our organization and for the continued use of "The Dugout" for
our equipment storage.

Now, please take a look below to see a picture of Mr. John Nowack receiving
his plaque, and a picture that we will simply call "A Blast From the Past".
It is a photo of Matt Crane (our Varsity Head Coach) walking in the Lapeer
Days Parade. Thanks Matt for use of the photo.
