Gothic style in jewelry

When working with Gothic jewelry, preference is given to white gold, silver and platinum, or so-called white metals. Probably such a love of white color is associated with the reality that more precious lighter metals draw out the gloomier strength  the fact that light of the black stone that brings together Gothic objects. They most often use onyx, but other significant and valuable crystals can add brightness to the decoration and are also welcome: these are large rubies, emeralds. The stones, like the jewelry itself, should be attractive defiant, massive.

The Gothic style in the history of culture is characterized by the flourishing of crafts, including jewelry. Gothic style jewelry – necklaces of large relief shapes made of round gold bars, chains with pendants, agraphs, rings, belts.

Agraffe – ornaments that connect the edges of the neckline, replacing brooches. Knights often gave them to their lovers, so the theme was appropriate: motifs of pierced hearts, woven hands, keys, flowers, engraving of love inscriptions.

The rings are especially important: they were all worn in large numbers, because the jewels of the insert were charms. The symbolism of the stones in the Gothic style was highly valued: they were valued for their size, color saturation and attributed strength. In the late Gothic age, agrafs and rings were decorated with religious enamels.

The Gothic subculture was born at the turn of the 1970s and 1980s. The twentieth century in the UK and originally united lovers of Gothic music. In the beginning, the Gothic movement was a youth, today it unites people aged 13 to 48. All representatives of the Gothic subculture are characterized by a special image, passive protest against existing social cultural stereotypes, negative attitude towards the modern world, love of Gothic music, while the Gothic subculture has several trends and branches, and is most common in Western Europe and USA did not gain a large number of followers except Japan.

The Androgin Goth line is typical of what people mean by gothic jewelry. Most of the time, products like these don’t really pertain to a single sex in their appearance – they are necklaces, spikes, bandages, massive rings, for example, on the entire phalanx of the finger. Each piece of jewelry in this direction is complemented by characteristic, “classic” Gothic symbolism.

A branch called Goth Fetish – these are objects that have an explicit fetishistic orientation: handcuffs, chains, necklaces, bandages. Most often, precious metals are not used, but artificial materials that have more lace and are necessarily with special attributes. And of course, traditional black or light gemstones are used. However, it is worth removing the common misconception here: people believe that a fetish is necessarily related to sex. If you look in the dictionary, then the fetish (literally) translates as sorcery, amulet. That is, it turns out that jewelry created in the fetish style of Goth has a completely different, not sexual orientation. These are objects endowed, in our case, with utensils dedicated to the supernatural or that show affiliation with a religious cult.

And the last direction of the Gothic style is Vampire Goth, which has a clear vampire focus. This style is for many people connected to the darker side and aspects of like, things like death and dying and all that happens after death. Quite often, jewelry like this might have depictions of bats, or possibly webs, and different attributes of the existence of vampires.
